Similar to the replacement of brake pads, replacing lines and hoses is reasonably straightforward. There’s not a lot of muss and fuss, but you should prep your workspace and gather up your tools and materials before you start. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Jack
- Jack stands
- A set of wheel chocks
- Collection of crescent/box-end wrenches in varying sizes
- Collection of flat-head screwdrivers
- A socket set
- Can of brake cleaner
- Can of brake fluid
- A set of plastic gloves
Now that you have all you’ll need to replace your brake lines. Here are the steps.
- Jack the vehicle up
- Chock each wheel other than the lifted corner of the car
- Install a jack-stand
- Drop the vehicle down on the jack-stand
- Identify the line fittings/clips at each brake caliper
- Loosen the line fitting nuts at the brake caliper (fluid may seep from the fitting itself)
- Remove the retainer clip
- Loosen the other end of the line and remove the like itself
- Install the line on one end and lock it down
- Install the other end of the line on the caliper and reinstall the retaining clip
- Lock the down the nut
- Repeat accordingly
