Ram 1500 brake parts

Every year, the RAM 1500 is among the list of the most popular vehicles in the United States. It is also always in the top three best-selling pickup trucks on the market today. At first glance, the RAM 1500 can tow 12,750 pounds and carry 2,300 pounds of payload. Because it has a mild hybrid system for its V6 and V8 engine configurations, it can do this while still getting better gas mileage. As a half-ton diesel pick-up and long-hauler, it's the most powerful in the country. It can go up to 1,000 miles on a full tank of fuel.

The fifth-generation Ram debuted at Detroit's 2018 North American International Auto Show. eTorque was introduced as an option for the 2019 Ram 1500. Torque output increased by up to 130 ft-lbs with eTorque's belt-drive generator and battery pack.

The new U-connect platform, which has a 12-inch touchscreen display and is the largest in its class, was also debuted in 2019. The 2019 Ram 1500 has more capability than ever before, with a payload of 2300 pounds and a maximum trailer towing capacity of 12,750 pounds when properly equipped.

Compared to the preceding generation, this translates to a total weight loss of around 225 pounds. Trailer Reverse Steering Control was added to the Trailer-Tow package for the 2021 model year. A Snow Plow Prep Package is now available for the 2021 Ram 1500.

Common Symptoms of Ram 1500 Brake Parts Problems

Brake Warning Light is On

One of the easiest ways to tell if your brakes need help is when your brake warning light comes on in your car. Most modern vehicles feature two warning lights on the dashboard that can appear for various reasons. If you have a brake light, it might be either your ABS or brake system warning light. A local dealer or repair shop will have the necessary equipment to diagnose an ABS warning light on your dashboard, so bring your car into them for service right away.

The brake light turning on in your dash doesn't always mean there's a problem. The light also appears on your dashboard when the parking brake is engaged.  If you have a brake warning light on while your parking brake is not engaged, you should have a brake specialist inspect your brake system.

You hear a metallic squealing noise when braking

When you use your brakes and hear a metallic squealing sound, you probably hear the wear indicators on your brake pads. It's annoying, but it's not usually a symptom of damage, but rather that your brake pads need to be replaced. Don't wait to replace your brake pads; waiting too long will result in damaged rotors and a far more expensive repair. The good news is that brake pads are a relatively inexpensive brake repair.

You hear a grinding noise.

If you let your brake pads wear out entirely, you'll hear a metal-on-metal grinding sound, which signifies your rotors are being damaged. If your brakes are causing a grinding sound, contact a brake professional as soon as possible to avoid causing further damage to your system.

Unusual vibrations when braking

Warped rotors are often indicated by shaky steering wheels or vibration when braking. The huge silver discs behind your wheel or rim are called rotors. When you step on the brake pedal, your brake pads will then squeeze the rotor, causing your car to come to a stop.

When your rotors become warped or uneven, they interfere with your braking system, causing vibrations. To correct this, you'll need to get your rotor resurfaced or replaced entirely. When your rotor is resurfaced, it is smoothed or evened out by shaving off parts of the rotor that are uneven. It isn't always the safest thing to do. If you want to save money in the long run, you can buy a new brake rotor instead of resurfacing the old one.

Leaking brake fluid

When your brake fluid leaks, it's usually a sign that your brake lines are damaged or your master cylinder needs to be replaced. Your brake fluid is stored in the master cylinder, and the hydraulic pressure formed between the cylinder and brake lines provides all of your braking force.

If your brake fluid is leaking, it's likely that you won't be able to stop your car as quickly as before. Let a brake expert check your fluid levels and brake parts to make sure you don't lose all of your braking power.

Burning smell when braking

You may have overheated your brakes or clutch if you notice a burning odor emanating from your wheels and brakes while driving. If you start to smell or see smoke coming from your brakes, pull over and inspect them right away.

Pulling sensation to one side

When you feel a pulling sensation to one side while braking, it's usually due to a malfunctioning brake hose or a caliper that's creating unequal pressure on one side. You'll probably need a brake specialist to figure out what's wrong, so get it to a nearby shop or service as soon as possible.
